Founded by the Phoenicians Palermo was called at the beginning Zyz<\/strong>, a word recalling the Arabic aziz, or beautiful. Later renamed Pan-Hormus <\/strong>from Greek translated means all-harbour for the connotation of a safe harbour-age in all wheathers. The Romans modified this name to Panormus and it was once again renamed Balarm <\/strong>by Arabs, before ultimately becoming Palerm<\/strong>o in the modern age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palermo it\u2019s a city where art, sea and traditions live in harmony<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  • Something u can\u2019t resist to try it\u2019s our street food<\/strong>: pane e panelle, pane e crocch\u00e9, focaccia con la milza, stigghiole etc. As well as some of the typical Sicilian food in Palermo you must try: pasta con le sarde, polpette di sarde, pasta al forno, caponata, pasta con i tenerumi etc. You should never end your meals without Limoncello <\/strong>and obviously don\u2019t forget to stop by our bakeries to try the world famous Cannolo or the Cassata and the Sfinge or the watermelon jelly.<\/li>
  • The Politeama Garibaldi <\/strong>theatre it\u2019s amazing and you should visit when musica sinfonica concert are in play. You should also visit the Teatro Massimo<\/strong> as it\u2019s the biggest theatre in Italy and the third in Europe. Was founded in honor of Vittorio Emanuele II and has Neoclassic design.<\/li>
  • L\u2019opera dei Pupi<\/strong> at the Mimmo Cuticchio theatre in Via Bara dell\u2019Olivella its something special not to be missed.<\/li>
  • The following museums<\/strong>: Museo d\u2019arte di Villa Zito, Galleria d\u2019arte Moderna, Museo archeologico regionale Antonio Salinas.<\/li>
  • The street markets to get in touch with the popular culture: Il Capo, Ballar\u00f2 and Vucciria<\/strong>.<\/li>
  • Not to be missed it\u2019s also the Arabo-Normanno itinerary that in 2015 made it to the World Heritage List as a world\u2019s heritage<\/strong>. Here\u2019s some of the places you will visit: Palazzo Reale, Palazzo dei Normanni, Cappella Palatina, La Cattedrale di Palermo, La chiesa della Martorana, La chiesa di San Cataldo, Il castello della Zisa, Il ponte dell\u2019Ammiraglio, La cattedrale di Cefal\u00f9 e la cattedrale di Monreale.<\/li>
  • Santa Rosalia its the patron saint of Palermo<\/strong>, lived in a cave in Monte Pellegrino where then became a chapel in 1625.<\/li>
  • Visit as well the following Noble buildings: Palazzo Alliata di Pietragliata<\/strong>, palazzo Mirto, palazzo Bordonaro, Palazzo Butera. As well as the Liberty style villas: Villa Pottino<\/strong>, Villa Florio etc.<\/li>
  • One of the most unusual place to visit it\u2019s the Catacombe dei Puccini <\/strong>or an excursion to the Orto Botanico\u2019s wonderful gardens and Villa Giulia<\/strong>.<\/li>
  • Only 30 minutes away from Palermo you can swim in the famous beach of Mondello<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
